The 2016 Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle Race for the Cure® - Hope Rising Taking the Next Steps for the Cures - is moving to Research Triangle Park.
Due to construction on Hillsborough Street, the 20th Annual Komen Triangle Race for the Cure®, presented locally by Duke Cancer Institute, will take place June 11, 2016 at The Frontier in RTP (800 Park Offices Drive, RTP).
The new site will enable us to expand our race and enhance our event. Our 20th anniversary celebration will feature an inspirational Survivor Celebration - where we will honor those who have battled breast cancer and remember those who have lost their lives to this disease.
Along the 5k course, live music and a few surprises will greet runners, walkers and supporters. The event will also feature a new Belk Tailgate Zone that will allow for easy pre-race gathering and after-race fun with a Food Truck Rodeo that will include 12 food trucks and a beer garden featuring 3 local breweries. We will also have a Family Fun Zone sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes, complete with a bounce house and Disney characters.
We are proud to announce that all four Triangle area university leaders are serving as our Honorary Race Chairs.
RTP is the home of dreamers, believers, planners and creators. We are excited to be a part of this community that inspires bold new ideas. We will tap into this inspiration as we move closer to our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created.
The event raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
This Race is unique in the fact that 100% of the net proceeds are allocated to our mission. 75 percent of the net income stays in our community to help fund local programs offering breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment. The remaining 25 percent of the net income supports the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program.
