Most of you know my story...
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2012. Thinking the cancer was isolated, the doctors were optimistic that they could remove it and have a short therapy plan afterward. However, when she had surgery to remove the cancer, they discovered it had grown at a more rapid rate than expected, and had spread into her lymph nodes. Due to the growth rate and its spread into her lymph nodes, she was given an intense treatment plan that included 24 weeks of chemotherapy, and seven weeks of daily radiation. Although it was an extremely difficult journey that we were all on, my mother continued to be a light of positivity. She struggled physically and mentally everyday, but somehow had an optimistic attitude and was full of smiles. She is such a strong, positive, and beautiful woman, an inspiration, and I am blessed to call her Mom! Today, 16 months after that dark, uncertain October day that we learned that she had cancer, we can finally say that she is in remission and as she likes to say, has "killed the cancer!"
This year I race with a different purpose...
I race in celebration of my mother, and in support of all the other women that will endure the same journey that we did. Every dollar raised in the past paved the way for my mother to be a success story, and every dollar that I raise this year will help another woman in the future write their own success story.
With the help and support of my husband, Brad Edmiston, and a great friend, Heidi Seifert, we created a whole team this year for the race, named I Heart Motorboats. If you'd like to support us by joining the team, racing with us on race day, and committing to help us raise money, click on "Join Kimberly's Team" on my personal page. The more the merrier! We would love for YOU to join us on race day!
Whether you are able to race with us or not, please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. You can donate online with your credit card by clicking the button above my fundraising thermometer. The research over the past few decades is what fueled my mother's success story. It's imperative that this continues.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
