Last year, Kim & I participated in the Triangle's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as a show of support for Kim's mom, as she was battling breast cancer. Since we couldn't be around during her treatments, it was the least that we could do to show that she was in our thoughts.

This year, she is in remission & I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure for a different reason. This year, we are celebrating her big win! As awesome as that win was, we realize how lucky she is to have defeated cancer, and how incredibly lucky we all are to still have her ray of positivity in our lives & in good health.

There is an African proverb that states, "It takes a village to raise a child." But it also takes a village to beat cancer. Without the support & assistance from friends & family, the Gussetts would have had an almost impossible task of getting by with their normal, day-to-day lives. Without her medical team, Dianne wouldn't have been able to diagnose, remove & "kill the cancer!" Without research, her doctors wouldn't have been able to know what treatment plan to recommend. Without the Susan G. Komen Foundation, there would be substantially less knowledge on breast cancer.

For that, I am grateful. And we all should be, because in our lives, cancer will touch each & every one of us, in one way or another. Currently, 1 in 8 American women will develop breast cancer. That is a scary number, because I am certain that we all know at least 8 American women. That is the real reason that Kim & I are racing again this year, and plan to continue doing so on an annual basis.

We want those odds to decrease, dramatically. But we can't do it alone...everybody needs to help out. So this year, we decided to create a team with some of the most important people in our lives. Please, come out to celebrate with us as we support those who have been affected by this disease! Click on "Join Bradley's Team" to the right & register for this year's race in Raleigh on Saturday, June 14th. I can't think of a better way to start summer! And for you out-of-towners, we have plenty of space for guests at our house if you decide to participate.

Even if you can't make it on race day, you can still support us. To make a tax-deductible donation today in support of our fundraising efforts in the fight against breast cancer, click on the "Donate to Bradley" button above my fundraising thermometer, or the "Make a Gift" link below the thermometer. Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Together, we will help to fuel the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. As ambitious as it sounds, we will not stop until this disease is gone forever! That’s our goal. Join me in this fight by making a donation today!
